Pride of Paoli Band Staff
The staff of the High School marching band consists of the adult directors
and helpers who instruct the students in various areas of performance. The
3 main areas of a marching band are: percussion, color guard, and the hornline.
The percussion splits into 2 areas - the marching battery (which can be divided
into 3 groups - snares, tenors, and basses) and the front line pit ensemble
(keyboards, large insts too big to carry and march). The color guard divides
into two areas - rifles and flags. The hornline divides many ways, the first
of which is in woodwinds and brass. Further division will create flutes,
clarinets, and saxophones in the woodwinds followed by trumpets, mellophones,
trombones, baritones, and tubas in the brass section.
The 2007 staff consists
of Mr. Laughlin who is the director of the band and is ultimately
responsible for all of the areas
that any of the students are involved in. Mrs. Laughlin, recently
retired as a teacher in our school, is still an assistant director
and spends most of her time working with the musical elements
of the hornline, pit ensemble, and instructing the field commander.
Mr. Aaron Nicholson, Springs Valley HS and Morehead University
graduate, is now a full time employee with the Paoli High School
band program (congratulations!), and works in the same areas
as Mr. & Mrs. Laughlin, along with taking care of our technological
needs. John Harris, a percussion teacher with a Master’s
Degree in performance is our head drum line instructor this year,
having written and taught all of our music to the battery. Chad
Trinkle, a former member of the band, is the pit ensemble instructor,
which he also helps to arrange and teach the music to these individuals.
Jolie Lindley, also a former member of the band, is responsible
for the choreography of the entire color guard. Steve Satterfield,
a former member of the band, is new to the team this year and
assists Jolie with the color guard. Anne Wellman (the last of
her 3 sons in the program graduated in 1991) has once again done
a marvelous job of coordinating the color in our show. She designed
the color guard uniforms, and not only designed, but also hand
made all of the flags that are used in this year’s show.
Other former members of the band program, such as Matthew Tabor,
Daniel Rojahn, Caleb Mullenix, Michelle Marshall, etc. have all
come in and out during the season to help promote and maintain
the high standard of discipline and work ethic necessary to the
production of a “top notch” program.
A word about our staff – one can see that many of the
staff are former members of the band program. Since this program
is built upon student leadership, and, students instructing the
younger generation on the traditions and disciplines of the Pride
of Paoli Band – this is why former members ulatimately
make the best staff we could ask for. We have been blessed by
the desire and committtment of so many of our best to come and “give
back” to the program. This kind of dedication has enabled
the Pride of Paoli to be a “State Level” band program
for 25 year. That is an incredible achievement.
